What really is "Part of Fortune" in astrology?
and how it is determined?
what are beliefs, symbols attached to this? and meaning?
how old is idea and where stems from?
when planets are in aspect or in transit to this point in chart..how this can be interpreted?
if partner has their jupiter near your part of fortune..what this ALSO means ? how good?

The Part of Fortune is part of a collective group of astrological mathematical equations used pre ancient Greece. Their origin is obscure; they could originally be Babylonian, Ancient Egyptian, Magian, Persian or Hermetic, but by the time of Dorotheus of Sidon in the first century A.D. (and probably earlier) they had become an established tenet of Hellenistic astrological practice.
Al Bruni in the 11th century known to be a great mathematician, scholar, and astrologer, wrote up the formulas of 97 (or close to that number) "lots" or "arabic parts". These all contain 3 planets, or points.
Today in modern astrology, Robert Hand was instrumental in re defining the Part of Fortuna, and Part of Spirit. Prior to him the Part of Fortuna (also known as the Part of Fortune) used the formula of Asc + Moon - Sun. Mr. Hand did some serious research on the arabic parts, and believes that a step was omitted. Nowadays we use for the part of fortuna day births formula is Asc + Moon -Sun and for night births (after sundown, and before sun rise) Asc + Sun - Moon. The part of spirit is the opposite formula.
The Part of Fortune represents worldly success, achieved through the persons own efforts. It is important to understand that without the effort, little or no gains will be shown. The Part of Spirit is how we are driven, our energy towards an effort.
When we see this in our charts it can bring about an ease to the house issues it resides in.
With the Part of Fortuna in :
Fire signs: it imparts energy to excel. Often there are interests in inventions, new projects, and unusual methods for solving problems.
Earth Signs - it is evidenced in practical expressions. There is a need for security and foundations.
Air Signs - it gives an interest in mental expressions and pursuits. Fulfilment may be achieved through literary, artistic or social work.
Water Signs -It emphasized emotional, psychic and intuitive pursuits or interests.
Should the Part of Spirit fall into the 12th, 1st, 2nd and 3rd house, it will indicate a self-starter.
4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, indicates one dependant upon their peer groups. 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th indicates an obession with physical or intellectual power.
When aspected through transits, wise to keep the orb very tight 1-2 degrees. The Part of Fortune can lighten a heavy aspect, or bring a little ease to it. Jupiter likes to be near Fortuna.
