When India be proud of being a developed nation and bring a legislation to disban astrology ?
We have astrogers , palmists , teen devias , Gurus by the hundreds. When can we learn to live normally?
India got its freedom from the British on 15 Aug 1947 . Before that there were free indians . What , whose traditions you are taliking about ? Aryans were not indian . were they ?
And you Kid , i am trying to make you understand why we should celebrate our independence day on 15 Aug each year . Is it to remind us that we were slaves to Britishers or got our first real indian on that day.
Lets not hit around the bush . lets dis ban astrology . It is nothing but VOODOO.
forget it . there will always be people who look towards some "divine intervention" ...
the bad thing is ,they consider everything to be indicators of the future ... like our palm-prints , or our date of birth , etc etc .
worse , some of the most popular astrologers today use laptops , etc . not even technology is spared .
even worse , some of the most highly educated people resort to these practises . so , hoping to use education to make people open-minded isnt a fool-proof idea .
While astrology , palmistry ,etc are meaningless , I dont see why they should be banned . After all , most people make use of them , but not very seriously . eg, if a good groom/bride is found , even if the dates dont match , it is common nowadays to proceed with the marriage .
I feel strongly about the fake "gurus" , though. we regularly hear about opportunistic "gurus" assaulting women and children , or taking money promising to double or triple it , and ignorant people supporting them .
to the person who commented on the demise of indian culture if the above are banned----- remember that child marriage , caste , widow burning , etc are also part of indian culture. disturbing customs , but very much part of indian culture ( i am no theist , but they arent really hindu customs ). if a culture isnt periodically modified , it wouldnt be something worth following .
